TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly said that former Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama will have completed his jail sentence and walk free on January 24, 2019, during work hours.
“He’ll be freed during work hours, just wait and see,” said Yasonna at his office on Tuesday, January 22.
According to Yassona, Ahok’s release on January 24 from the Police Mobile Brigade Command Jail (Mako Brimob) is not due to parole but because he has purely undergone the complete duration of his sentencing.

However, Yasonna asked the public not to exaggerate the moment of his freedom and maintained that it should be treated as any other ex-convict’s prison release. “So, don’t exaggerate it, look at it as a normal occurrence,” said the minister.
Ahok was sentenced to two years in prison for blasphemy upon a speech he made that eventually sparked two major rallies pressuring for his imprisonment on November and December of 2016.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) spokesman Mohamad Guntur Romli said that his party plans to hold a welcoming party for Ahok`s release.
